Research

I'm an expert on modern transformations of spirituality and religion in the Chinese world and beyond; and on cultural relations between China and the Global South. My interdisciplinary research is situated at the intersection of anthropology and sociology, and is informed by scholarly traditions in psychology, history, religious studies and Sinology.

Engagement

I am developing applications of my research to benefit the broader society, bridging academic work with community engagement. These efforts are focused in three main areas: fostering learning and spiritual growth, promoting intercultural dialogue, and creating social impact for a sustainable future and a global civilization.

Learning

Helping students and others to grow spiritually, by developing approaches to spiritual knowledge and practice informed by social scientific insights; and to develop approaches to social science informed by spiritual insights.

Dialogue

Contributing to interdisciplinary, inter-cultural, inter-faith, and inter-civilizational discourses revolving around the principle of the oneness of humanity, in the context of an emerging global civilization.

Helping institutional and business actors to sustainably engage with local communities through consultative practices and understanding of local values and social realities.

Impact

Bridging academic work with community engagement:
